A few months ago, I saw a post on LinkedIn that went viral in the Executive Assistant world.
It was meant to celebrate EAs and their critical role.
But to me, it was a bit… off.
The image showed an EA surrounded by chaos —
Sticky notes on every surface.
Drawers overflowing.
15 tabs open across 5 monitors.
Snack stashes.
Crisis hotlines.
Calendars layered like digital Tetris.
The caption called it “Mission Control.”
And tons of people applauded it and reacted to it.
But here’s the thing:
That’s not the goal.
That’s not what I want for our team.
That’s not what we do at Dream Support.
And that’s not what a high-functioning Executive Assistant should aspire to.
Because EAs aren’t meant to mirror the chaos.
They’re meant to bring clarity to it.
They’re not incredible because they survive messes.
They’re incredible because they quiet the noise.
Here’s what I do want to see on an EA’s desk:
✅ An organized calendar, not a cluttered inbox
✅ A prioritized task list, not a post-it frenzy
✅ Systems that serve, not tools duct-taped together
✅ Time reclaimed, not time frantically wasted
An EA’s job is not to absorb every fire —
It’s to prevent most of them from ever starting.
So here’s a reminder to every leader:
If your EA looks overwhelmed…
Maybe it’s not proof of their value.
Maybe it’s proof that something in your system is broken.
And if you’re an EA trying to earn trust:
Your job isn’t to do everything.
It’s to create capacity.
Be the calm in the chaos.
That’s the magic.
