brown sand on beach

We hear it all the time:

“Build something that lasts.”
“Leave a legacy.”
“Make your mark.”

But let me ask you something:

What if what you’re building… doesn’t outlast you?
What if it doesn’t scale?
Doesn’t go viral?
Doesn’t survive you?

Does that mean it wasn’t worth it?

I don’t think so. ☁️

In fact, I think there’s tremendous value in doing meaningful work that serves people right now—even if no one writes about it later.

Legacy is great. But it’s not everything.

Some of the most important work you’ll do:

  • won’t be remembered in history books
  • won’t get turned into a podcast episode
  • won’t trend

But it will matter.
To someone.

It might look like:

  • Sending the email no one else had time to write
  • Following through when others flake
  • Showing up fully to your family, your team, your calling
  • Building something that solves a real problem today

So yes—build things.
But don’t ignore the value of right now.
Don’t sacrifice the present in pursuit of a legacy.

Serve the people in front of you.
Do the work that matters today.
Let that be enough.

And in so doing, you might, inadvertently, build something else, something spiritually eternal.
