a man talking on the phone

One of the most common things I hear from leaders when it comes to getting support is this:

“I just don’t think I have enough for someone else to do.”

Here’s the hard truth:

If you don’t have anything someone else can do, you don’t have an organization or a business. You have a hobby.

That might sound harsh, but it’s actually freeing.

Every leader I’ve ever worked with is carrying more than they realize. And every one of them has areas of work they’re doing that could be handed off. They just haven’t taken the time to slow down and see it.

So let’s reframe the question.

Instead of asking, “Do I have enough to hand off?”

Ask:
❓ What do I do repeatedly that drains me?
❓ What do I put off that someone else could own?
❓ What do I know is necessary — but never gets done?

And most importantly:
❓ What would I do more of if I had the space?

Because that’s the real ROI. Freeing up your focus to do what only you can do. And building something bigger than your bandwidth.

The problem isn’t that you don’t have enough to hand off. The problem is you’ve never had the margin to stop and identify it.

When you hire an EA, you’re not admitting weakness. You’re choosing to lead differently.

You’re shifting your energy toward the work only you can do.

So if you’ve ever caught yourself thinking, “I’d love to have help, but I’m not sure I have enough for someone else to do,”

Let me encourage you: You do.

And once you start handing it off, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
